Two ways to do it, done right
It is possible to skim directly over Artex, but that is a purely cosmetic fix that only hides the texture. In most cases we recommend over-boarding the ceiling with new plasterboard, mechanically fixed into the joists, then skimming. That covers the old surface without disturbing it and gives a flat, long-lasting finish anchored to the structure.
- Direct skim where the surface is sound (cosmetic)
- Over-boarding and skim for a permanent, structural finish
- Full assessment of property age and condition first
Asbestos awareness
Artex applied before the year 2000 can contain asbestos. We treat older textured coatings with care, advise on standard safety testing protocols where appropriate, and never disturb a surface we have concerns about without the right checks. It is the professional, thorough approach your home deserves.
